New Arrival at SAS We are absolutely delighted to welcome Hugo Marsh as a Director here at SAS. The toy and train auctions at Special Auction Services have grown substantially in recent years and a new arrival heralds further growth and market strength.
From 1st June Nigel Mynheer, the Head of Toy and Train Department, has been joined by his old colleague from Christies, Hugo Marsh. Hugo was previously a Director of Christies and ran the Toy and Train Department there from 1989 to 2007. Before that they both worked at Phillips -Nigel and Hugo between them have more than forty-five years experience in the toy auction business, an unrivalled record. Nigel and Hugo together handled many of the finest collections sold over the last twenty five years and look forward to selling many more in the future. They bring together expertise in the subject and business practice with the flexibility afforded by a growing business.
Jewellery, Watches, Coins and Silver The Jewellery auction on Friday 29th May was a great success. The second part of the stickpin collection all sold and we achieved some good prices. Included in the auction was a small collection of Art Deco figures that attracted a lot of interest. The watch section also did very well and we had a huge amount of interest in the Brietling watch that sold for ?1,200. The next Jewellery auction will be on Friday 11th September.
Toys for the Collector The Toy auction on 4th April was really well attended and all the vendors were pleased with the results we achieved. We had a large amount of Matchbox which sold very well indeed. The Toy auction on Saturday 11th July will start a little earlier (at 10:00). As well as the usual Friday viewing, we will also have a full day viewing on Thursday 9th July. The catalogue is now completed and the photography is being finished this week. Included in the Toy auction is a large collection of lead and plastic figures from a shop that closed down on Portobello Road. The toy auction also contains; Dinky, Corgi, Matchbox, Ferrari Competition cars and team trucks, Magic Roundabout and Sooty collectables, railways and model trains, teddy bears, dolls and a collection of dolls? house furniture. We look forward to seeing you in July!
Sport and Collectables Our first Sport and Collectables auction was held on Friday 8th May and was a real success and was very well attended. The next auction will be held on the August 7th and we have over 500 lots already in for sale, including football programmes, postcards, cigarette cards, stamps and stamp collections. Contact Gary on 0118 971 2949 for more information and entries into the auction before the end of June.
TEN ? TEN ? TEN As you may be aware through July and August we are hosting a series of Ten antique and collectable valuation days, at Ten locations in Berkshire, to raise Ten thousand pounds for the Alexander Devine Cancer Care Trust (ADCCT). We have now finalised all the locations, and have signed off the proof for the leaflet. Ironically, we have been donated 10,000 by our printers Advent Colour! Visit the website over the next couple of days for more information.
Trains Galore You will be pleased to hear we already have quite a number of items in for the December Trains Galore auction. Nigel and Hugo are busy getting in and cataloguing some impressive collections of O and OO gauge models, along with some larger scale models. We will keep you posted! If you wish to enter lots for sale, please get in touch with us.
General Stuff? The annual ADCCT Heavensent ball was a great success. Thomas did a great job raising over ?7,000 with only 6 lots including a BA flight simulator experience and a holiday in Croatia.
On Saturday 6th June, Thomas, Neil and Lucie will be running an auction of promises at the Rugby Club in Newbury to raise money for the Faulklands Primary School in Newbury.
Finally, just to keep you up to date with Thomas? twins. Both William Joseph and Jemima Alice are doing exceptionally well. They are feeding well, and luckily for Thomas and Angela sleeping well...
