Three Mahogany Mounted Kaleidoscopic Hand Cranked Rotary Magic Lantern Slides, scenes of Queen Victoria with kaleidoscopic rotating perimeter, fixed red thistle in bloom with a kaleidoscopic rotating perimeter and full kaleidoscope with rotating disc handle and pulley action with handwritten inscription “painted by the inventor H. Childe”. Henry Langdon Childe (1781–1874) was an English showman, known as a developer of the magic lantern and dissolving views, a precursor of the dissolve in cinematic technique, auction records show this lot was part of the Harry Bland collection auctioned at S.A.S. in 2015
