An early 19th Century German cast iron medal commemorating the Battle of Liepzig and Fall and Treaty of Paris, by Josef Lerch von Lerchenau (1793-1859). Obverse within olive branch border “FRYDRICH / ALEXANDER / FRANZ / ERRANGEN DEN / SCHOENSTEN / LORBER -KRANZ. / FRIEDENS SCHLUS / PARIS. D. 30. MAY / 1814” and, faintly, to ribbon “Lerch”. Reverse within a border of broken chains "Sie haben Euro. pas Ketten ge-schrochen. und ihrer Völker Leiden gerochen" (They have broken Europe's chains, and avenged the suffering of their peoples) / LEIPZIG D. 18. OCT. / 1813. / PARIS D. 31. MERZ / 2. APRIL. 1814”. Diam. 2 ¼ in. (Diam. 5.4 cm). Very fine.
