A rare Chad Valley 1920s black mohair Smiler teddy bear with provenance, with black button eyes, pronounced clipped muzzle, brown stitched nose and smiling mouth, swivel head, jointed limbs with black velvet pads, inoperative squeaker and small hump —17in. (43cm.) high (repair to left side of muzzle, holes and balding to outside of right foot, general age related wear and signs of old moth activity) - this bear belonged to Lt. Colonel Peter Dryland of the Welsh Fusiliers, born in 1920 and come with letter from his brother Geoffrey; brothers Peter, Geoffrey and Basil all served in the 2nd World War and Peter and Basil both were granted permanent commissions post-war and became lieutenant colonels
