Here in the Music and Entertainment department at SAS we’ve been so inundated with great items and collections that the November Auction will be over two days with over 930 lots!
Taking place on 17th and 18th November the auction is split as follows:
Day One (17th November): Vinyl, CDs, Music Memorabilia, Music Posters
With 300 lots, The Vinyl section is made up of individual records to large Box lots and we are pleased to present the first section of the late Robert Hingley collection which is one of the best Psychedelic and Progressive Rock collections that I have ever seen! In this sale alone we have rare originals from Andromeda, Toe Fat, May Blitz, Black Sabbath, Fresh Maggots, Trees, Organisation, Tea & Symphony, Kaleidoscope, Pink Floyd and many more. Other highlights in the sale include rare Box Sets and LPs from David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Who and more, the second section of a large one owner Madonna Collection, more from a large Jazz and Blues one owner collection plus all the usual great lots of Reggae, Punk, Soul, Prog and Sixties albums, singles and job lots.
The CD section also includes more rare items from Robert Hingley’s collection plus more Bowie, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Stones, Who and other box sets
The Highlight of the Memorabilia section is the Trident Studios Visitor Book! This unique piece of Rock and Pop Music History was given to the vendor (the well respected Mastering Engineer Ray Staff) on his departure from the Studio and covers 1971 to 1974 with around thirty-two pages of entries including David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Roger Taylor, Marc Bolan, Jimmy Page, Tony Visconti, Phil Collins, Michael Palin, Terry Jones, Cat Stevens, Spencer Davis, Keith Relf and many many more. What increases the interest with this is that alongside their signings in, many artists have put additional comments, drawn doodles and other pictures! Other items in the memorabilia section include Beatles memorabilia, Early 1970s Prog Rock programmes and tickets, Melody Maker and other vintage magazines and more.
The Music Poster section is largely made up of a one owner collection of Live and Promotional posters from the late Sixties and Early Seventies including Cream, The Kinks, Caravan, Family, Graham Bond, Tea & Symphony, Van Der Graaf Generator, Hawkwind, Kraftwerk and many more. Also included is a very rare Jamie Reid designed early promotional poster for the Sex Pistols.
Day Two (18th November): Film and TV Memorabilia, Film Posters, Musical Instruments, Hi-Fi, Radio and Electronic Equipment
The Film Poster section is made up of one of the largest offering of Quads to come to the UK auction market in the past decade and is from one owner. The vendor was a mobile projectionist who gathered the collection whilst showing the films around North Somerset during the 1970s and 1980s from whence the majority of the posters in the collection date and when most cinema posters were created from traditional painted designs. These are the posters which are very much in vogue now. Importantly, not a single item in the collection has been restored so everything is being offered in its original condition and most are First releases. (Please note; the small lines that are visible at the corners & edges of a number of posters are magnetic strips used to hold the poster in place for photographic purposes! Any actual marks on the poster will be noted in the description)
The collection of nearly 900 Posters in total and around 210 lots contains many stand-out titles including Get Carter, Barbarella, Dracula AD 1972 , The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Le Mans, On Any Sunday, Star Wars, Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid together with James Bond titles like Diamonds are Forever and The Man With The Golden Gun. Interspersed with these are more stand-alone Lots and a number of interesting Job Lots with posters by artists such as Tom Chantrell, Brian Bysouth, Arnaldo Putzu, Robert McGinnis, Frank McCarthy, Drew Struzan etc. Every one of the almost 900 posters on offer is British, the vast majority being UK Quads
In the Instrument section we have more great guitars from the one owner collection we have been auctioning for the past few sales together with a fabulous Wurlitzer Keyboard and a number of violins
The Hi-Fi section includes some great turntables by Technics, Goldring and JVC and a number of Reel to Reel machines
Finally we have a large selection of vintage Radio and Electronic equipment, again, largely from one life long collector and includes rare Transmitters and Receivers, Valves, Oscilloscopes, Ferrographs, Transistors and much more
