A rare Steiff wool plush Peter Rabbit, circa 1906, 4522,6, white wool plush with black boot button eyes, red felt backing, pink stitching, whiskers, pink velvet ear linings, begging, inoperative squeaker, blue felt coat with two pockets, white stitched piping and ridged brass buttons, red felt slippers with yellow stitched piping and leather soles and blank button, circa 1906 —10in. (25.5cm.) height including ears (slight fading, slight moth damage to wool pile, mainly under jacket, top of one brass button missing) - Beatrix Potter did not like Steiff's version of Peter Rabbit and so did not approve it. Steiff continued to sell the toy unlicenced, as an unnamed rabbit - this rabbit was gifted to Bunny, by a client, who found him on a skip in Athens
