The lived at 52 Cherry Orchard in Kidderminster. Alfred worked in the carpet factor, for which the town is famous, and Ellen took in tailoring as times were hard. Ida had grown up sisters and a brother, as she was born when her mother was 40. Her schooling was cut short due to ill health. Ida was given the bear as a child, and her mother tailored his waistcoat which he still wears. I was given ‘grandma’s’ bear as a baby during World War II and I have always treasured him, as my grandma died before I was born… He has traveled to many countries with me when I was giving talks and was loved by the many collectors he met. It was him that inspired may great and lasting love of bears, but I feel now is the right time for him to have a new home’
