A Regency era gold and gemset acrostic "PEACE" brooch from Watier's Fête of 1814, of neo-classical form with cannetille and grainti. Central cartouche surmounted by Prince of Wales’ feathers, set from left to right with: Pearl, Emerald, Amethyst, Chrysoberyl & Emerald (spelling ‘PEACE’) above gold laurel leaves with a turquoise set gold drop. Reverse engraved "WATIER'S / 1 July 1814". 3 cm high x 3 cm wide. Presented in a royal blue leather, velvet lined box for Collingwood Ltd. Note:- See previous lot. A number of these brooches are known with slight variations in form. It has been suggested that they were commissioned from the Royal Jeweller Rundell, Bridge & Rundell of Ludgate Hill. Recent research indicates they were possibly very glamorous prizes for a raffle or lottery, drawn during the evening. A John Player "Dandies" cigarette card illustrating "A Member of Watier's Club" is included with the lot.
