South Wales Borderers, WWI British Trio, awarded to 14132 Sergeant William Bridgeman, as part of 5th (Pioneer) Company he was mobilised to Hauve on the Empress Queen, once in France, being attached to 255 Australian Tunnel Company, March 1916 the German blew a mine near the top of Calvin Street Tunnel, Bridgeman and a party of No.1 Platoon were underground at the time, without receiving orders they gathered a party of the 8th Staffordshire Regiment and manned the parapet, although suffering considerable casualties from falling debris and hostile machine gun fire, they managed to stop the attack, as not witnessed by an Officer, no gallantry awards were issued (3)
