A mid 18th century English needlework and pin work basket containing an assortment of doll, sewing and miniature items, the rectangular basket with a wooden base, the sides and base made from long steel pins woven with cream and pink yarn, the handles, middle and edge with golden silk ribbon, the inner of the basket woven with tonal variety of green, red and white yarns in a geometric pattern, the underside with pin ’S R - 1762 and a crown’ and a tassel on each corner —12in. (30.5cm.) wide, the contents gathered over years include an embroidered silk circular pincushion, one side ‘Remember Me’ with birds and hearts, the other side ‘A Token of love’ —2 ¼in. (5.5cm.) wide, two slipper thimble holders with needle case/pin cushion soles, an early red velvet heart pincushion with green silk ribbon, a pair of very slender bronze silk dolls’ shoes with pin edges, a spider’s web yarn and silk pincushion, 19th century doll items - a 18th century style frock coat, two miser’s purses, a blue and black crochet draw string purse, three pairs of socks, a black silk poke bonnet, a pair of blue kid heeled shoes with steel buckles, a card and gilt paper work basket, a pair of crochet white gloves, a straw and cream silk hat, a tiny gilt metal padlock with working key, a spinning top and five pieces by the same hand with paper notes, a needle case ‘a birthday gift from little Minnie to aunty Sharah 1852’, three dolls’ house bonnets ‘these bonnets made & given to Aunt Mary by little Annie for a birthday 1852’, a tiny blue silk needle case in printed cotton bag ‘made & given to aunty by A Pr????? Aged 6’, a folded cotton square held with a pin and a bound roll of tape/ribbon ‘Annie’s gift 1849’ and a brown silk lavender cushion with lace edge and bead work loops ‘a present to Aunty Mary from Annie made by her 1856 aged 7 years’, in a glass topped display box (one side pane cracked)
