A rare A A Milne letter, mentioning Pooh, Eeyore and Tigger, 1931, ‘COTCHFORD FARM, HARTFIELD, SUSSEX. 19.8.31. Dear Peggy, Thank you so much for the tea-cosy and the pretty box. I couldn’t think what it was when I opened it, because it wasn’t my birthday. We are here for the holidays, but I think that you went to 13 Mallord Street, Chelsea and range the bell, and asked my housekeeper (supposing she didn’t happen to be out) if you and your brother might see Pooh and Eeyore and Tigger and all the rest of them, and if you happened to say that you had had a letter from me saying you might do this, then perhaps she would take you up into what used to be Christopher Robin’s nursery and show them to you. That is, if you would like to see them. And now thank you again very for my present. It was a very nice one. Yours A.A. Milne’, single sided —7 ½in. (19cm.) x 5 ½in. (14cm.) wide with envelope addressed to Miss Peggy McLaren, White Hall, 92 Lancaster Gate, London, W.2 (crossed out and redirected to) Royal Victoria Hotel Swanage - purchased from Christie’s South Kensington, July 1992, lot 366 and sold with the original catalogue - see Some of our Favourite Bears by Ian Pout, page 26
