A rare early Steiff tumbling elephant, possibly pre-button, of grey velvet, black bead eyes, raised trunk with bone tusks and turned wooden hemisphere base —6 ¾in. (17cm.) high (hole to underside of trunk, red cloth can be seen, small hole to left toe of seated leg, some discolouration to velvet, crack to underside of wooden hemisphere) - the Steiff Sortiment 1892 -1943 list that this toy was produced from 1901 until 1919
