This Collector’s Auction will feature a fabulous single-owner collection of Souvenirs from the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria, collated by Richard and Susan Wales, comprising Silver, Silver Plate, Sweetheart Brooches, Medallions and Coins, Artworks, Prints & Etchings, Furniture, Glass, Ceramics, Ephemera and much more, as well as a single-owner collection carefully curated by Sandy Rich relating to the 'Glorious Peace' 1814.
Of his collection Sandy commented,
‘After more than 20 years of collecting this wonderfully eclectic material, it feels rather strange to be saying farewell to it - but also like the right moment to share the sentiments of Peace (& Love) which have always been at its heart.
The very first item I encountered, back in the early 2000s, was Edward Orme’s 1814 print “The Fleet on the Serpentine River” [Lot 207]. This prompted me to research it, to discover “The Grand Jubilee in Celebration of Peace” and start collecting related items.
The collection has always been about that extraordinary moment when, after 20-years of near-continuous war, Europe breathed a collective sigh of relief, celebrated peace and opened up once more to cultural communication, Continental travel and the Grand Tour.’
