October's sale features an interesting section of studio pottery, predominantly British and post-war. There is a pot by John Ward, lot 287, from the Camberwell School of Art, who is celebrated in his own right and whose works were influenced by Lucie Rie and Hans Coper. The Leach dynasty are also represented with works from Bernard, David and Janet, lots 280, 288, 289 and 291.
In the painting section there is an artist's studio offered, lots 344 to 353 being the works of husband and wife Winifred and Jack Francis. Her works are highly abstracted, his have a clear surrealist influence. It is an opportunity to see evolutions of artist styles and to consider creative relationships. It appears to be the first time that a regional auction has had a consignment of this quantity of works by the couple.
